Hey aficionados ~ as you know wine prices are down, quality is up, and retailers are offering some tremendous buys. I like wines of all kinds. I see great buys often. However…you know you have a winner when the owner of a local wine store is asked to choose his best red wine under $30 and with no hesitation on his part, he goes right to this wine. So … you have my recommendation and his, and NOW would be an excellent time to try the ripe, round and tasty 2007 Chappellet Mountain Cuvee.
It’s an easy drinking blend of Cabernet and Merlot, with a slight proprietary splash of Malbec, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. It's ready to drink right now with a beautiful Camembert cheese, a great steak, or braised lamb shanks. It could also lie down for 2 years, maybe three. I heard through the grapevine that a fair amount of the extra premium juice was put into the 2007 Mountain Cuvee and boy does it show. This is ridiculously easy to drink showcasing fig, cocoa and cherry with a soft texture and nice balance. Around town for a modest $17 - $28, which as you know is a great price for a quality Napa blend.
